When and Where Should I Get Tested for Contagious Illnesses?
The growing vaccination numbers and the declining number of COVID-19 cases are great signs, but the fact remains that you can still get sick with another illness, like the flu or strep throat. If you are starting to experience symptoms for one of these illnesses, when should you consider getting tested?
The answer is as soon as possible, and our AFC Urgent Care Monroe Road team highlights why below.
When Should I Get Tested?
Experts say that if you are showing symptoms of strep, flu or COVID-19, you should get tested. You should also get tested if you live with a family member who has been sick or you have come into close contact with someone who was.
If you are starting to show symptoms of one of those types (or another type) of illness, it’s best to visit our AFC center right away to receive an accurate diagnosis. In the meantime, stick to the below-mentioned health protocols to keep others safe from getting ill until you know your diagnosis.
Protocols to Follow Before Rapid Test
- Stay home except to get tested or for medical care.
- Separate yourself from other people in your home.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or shirt sleeve.
- Wash your hands with soap and water often and for at least 20 seconds each time.
- Avoid sharing personal items with others.
Where Should I Get Tested?
At our AFC center! At AFC Urgent Care Monroe Road, we offer rapid COVID-19, strep and flu testing that provides accurate results in 15 minutes or less.
Additionally, our AFC center uses molecular rapid COVID-19 test kits, which are more accurate than the common antibody tests because they test the genetic material (the RNA) of the coronavirus and are sensitive enough to need only a tiny amount of the virus, thus making them less prone to producing “false positives.”
Reasons to Get Tested for Flu, Strep or COVID-19
- If you’ve been exposed to someone who is ill
- If you have symptoms of any of the three illnesses
- If you have taken part in any activities that put you at higher risk of contracting a contagious illness
